The Big Opera Party, an annual fundraising gala, returned to an in-person format in 2022 following postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event has typically been held in The Opera Center with dinner on stage at The Opera House under the set of the current opera production. Due to health concerns around hosting the event inside, as well as challenges with the Opera set that would be on stage, Tolo Events reimagined the venue by transforming a city street adjacent to The Opera Center into a tented outdoor ballroom.
The location of the tent on a narrow street required that the tent be built over both the sidewalk and the street in order to allow for a through-traffic lane and fire department access in case of an emergency. Tolo Events worked with their tent vendor to create a customized structure that included two levels of flooring and a custom roof panel to accommodate a city light pole.
